  • Feature in December 2018 issue of "BRAIN"

"Book Jacket: Senses" is a bi-monthly series made possible
through collaborations with creators using fine paper.
Each issue in this popular project includes a book jacket/cover
made with a different type of fine paper.

Yoshinaka Ono appears in the December 2018 issue.
The paper he uses is LUMINESCENCE.

The title of the work is “COVERT”

The design of these book jackets adopts a paradoxical approach by taking one of the common motives
for using a book jacket—wanting to hide what you are reading—and declaring that fact to the world.
Modeled after the standard covers of four published book collections, the jackets use jet-black
rectangles to completely block out sections that normally hold identifying information such as the author,
series number, and ornamental rule lines. The designer produces minute variations of black using
different printing processes—spot color black double bump + CMY, spot color black + CMY,
spot color black double bump, and spot color black. The jackets are characterized by the contrast
between the ultimate whiteness of the LUMINESCENCE paper and the printed black.

The December 2018 issue of "BRAIN" is available in bookstores throughout Japan.
“COVERT” book jackets are on sale for a limited period at BOOK BOX in the Architecture and Design
section of Daikanyama Tsutaya Books.
