  • Feature in February 2018 issue of "BRAIN"

"Book Jacket: Senses" is a bi-monthly series made possible
through collaborations with creators using fine paper.
Each issue in this popular project includes a book jacket/cover
made with a different type of fine paper.

Akira Takubo (TAKUBO DESIGN STUDIO) appears in the February 2018 issue.
The paper he uses is PACHICA, a unique fine paper that achieves transparency using hot stamping.

The title of the work is “Suyari-gasumi.”
Takubo has designed this book jacket with a motif based on suyari-gasumi (literally, “straight haze”),
the traditional Japanese painting device of adding mist clouds to highlight and delineate scenes in picture scrolls.
In this case, it reveals parts of the cover through gaps in the 'clouds.'
The design is uniquely suited to PACHICA, protecting the book but leaving it visible.
