With society currently dealing with a number of overlapping issues for which the outcome is uncertain, it’s no exaggeration to say that we are living at a turning point in history. Under the circumstances, what came to us were two perspectives, namely, gifting and stacking. We think these perspectives can provide hints for how to dispel this situation in which we feel heavily burdened by uncertainty.

This exhibition presents two works. One is the process of creating the installation Much Peace, Love and Joy, which was produced in the hope of using color to bring about joy in the world during the pandemic.

We share with the public part of the process of creating the work, in which we printed one-of-a-kind gradations using special letterpress printing, and cut off each page by hand. The other work is a FINE FLUTE Gift Box, which we are developing together with TAKEO. The work is an attempt to aim for new values by adding fine paper to a simple two-piece box made of corrugated cardboard. The lid of the paper box, which comes in different colors and textures, allows for mixing and matching, providing a wide variety of possible color combinations. The show presents prototypes.

Print, cut off, arrange, choose, combine, stack. What we are doing with both works is extremely simple, and not some kind of new technology. We assess the situation, respond by reflecting internally, and stack up what we are able to achieve. And we do that with great care.
