  • Work using Fine Mold shown in
“The Year 2121: Futures In-Sight” at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT

Fine Mold was used to make the work Itsu Kara 2121 Nen ga Hajimaru Noka (When will the year 2121 start)  by Rikako Nagashima, exhibited in the exhibition “The Year 2121: Futures In-Sight” held at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT. Print production proofs were used as the raw material for the work.

In her short one-line text, Nagashima, who is keenly aware of environmental issues, questions the PRESENT through her design work and through the existence of her child while ‘reminiscing’ about the FUTURE. She visualizes contiguous time and the dichotomy between uncertainty and certainty through her style of writing, using a single line seemingly written continuously without lifting the brush off the paper, and through typography. The piece was printed on a fine mold paper made from wastepaper from Nagashima’s PAST design work that was shredded and recycled.
