“PAPER & TRIAL—LEATHAC16 & RYU MIENO / TAMASHIKI & AKIKO MASUNAGA” in Tokyo


 

PAPER & TRIAL is a series of exhibitions at Yodoyabashi MIHONCHO on paper, design, and experimentation. Each exhibition features a fine paper and the trials conducted by a participating designer in an attempt to expand the range of possibilities for that paper, presenting the experimental processes used as well as the trial products.

 

This traveling exhibition series presents the first two “PAPER & TRIAL” shows, “LEATHAC16 & RYU MIENO” and “TAMASHIKI & AKIKO MASUNAGA,” together. Ryu Mieno and Akiko Masunaga explore new possibilities for artistic expression, Mieno with LEATHAC 16, which is characterized by texture the feels like real leather, and Masunaga with TAMASHIKI, which is dotted with beautiful watermarks.

 

Ryu Mieno

Graphic designer

 

Born in 1988 in Hyogo Prefecture. Began a career as a freelance graphic designer in Kyoto after graduating from the Graphic Design Course at Kyoto Seika University in 2011. Creates graphics centered around text, including for designs for promotional materials for art and performing arts, as well as logos and merchandise. Successfully managed to survive until the present.

 

Akiko Masunaga

Graphic designer

 

Born and lives in Kyoto Prefecture . Provides communication design aimed at achieving vital solutions through the creation of graphics, packaging, spaces, and other work centering around branding. Works on numerous exhibitions, workshops, and lectures related to education, the local community, and society. Her works have been accepted and won awards at numerous competitions throughout the world.
