Where does the word paper come from? Why is mozoshi art paper sometimes called “imitation Japanese vellum”? Why does paper have a warmth to it? Questions like these are addressed in lectures that Takeo gives at art universities and other institutions, and this series of shows presents the same content in an exhibition format. The first show presents the charm and fascination of paper as a material with a long history, viewed from perspectives such as papermaking, Japanese washi & Western paper, and the composition and physical properties of paper. Some one hundred additional references are available for consultation at the venue, including books, exhibition catalogs, and manga.
