PAPER & TRIAL is a series of exhibitions on paper, design, and experimentation.
The fifth exhibition in the series features GMUND COLORS MATT-FS. GMUND COLORS MATT-FS is a fine paper by German paper manufacturer Gmund GmbH featuring classic, matt texture and vivid colors. Its 48 gradations of color use Gmund’s unique color system, “Gmund Colors,” in which all colors are designed to harmonize with one another.

This exhibition presents rigid boxes designed by Kako Fujita using Gmund Color Matt-FS and using V-cutting. V-cutting is a method in which a V-shaped channel is cut into thick paper that forms the core. Folding along the cut allows the creation of rigid boxes with sharp angles. For this exhibition, Fujita has created non-standard boxes by redesigning the angles of the channels. The boxes appear to have different shapes depending on the angle at which they are viewed. The exhibition presents these new creations in combinations of a wide range of colors, resulting in boxes that change their appearance in many different ways.
